I recently saw the 7 Cs of communication shared on LinkedIn in this great post, and it reminded me how much I wish these communication commandments were non-negotiable. Imagine what an easy life we'd have if they were followed by our colleagues, our friends, our partners, and the strangers we encounter. In development storytelling, resilience is often romanticised. Women are framed as heroes, their lives reduced to neat arcs of struggle and triumph. These stories inspire, but they also individualise what are deeply structural problems. This piece reflects on why the “strong woman” trope persists, and what it costs.

Having a LinkedIn account doesn’t make you a communication strategist. Just like making a sandwich doesn’t make you a chef. This piece is about what happens when communication is treated as familiarity rather than expertise, how that erodes motivation, and why strong comms depends on trust, not crowding the kitchen.
