Example: VVOB - education for development

As Global Director of Engagement & Communication for VVOB, I work across a multi-country organisation operating in diverse political, linguistic, and cultural contexts. Communication practices varied widely between teams and countries, with decisions about language, imagery, and storytelling often made without shared standards. This led to inconsistency and placed responsibility for ethical judgement on individuals rather than on the organisation. I led the development of a communication governance framework, including global communication policies, writing guidelines, and ethical storytelling standards, designed to be embedded within an internal communication system. This work brought greater clarity and coherence to communication practices, supported more consistent decision-making and created greater brand coherence.

While working across Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, I saw recurring English-language issues that reflected a lack of shared reference points rather than individual ability. I developed concise messaging and language guidelines, including common mistranslations, to support clearer and more consistent communication across the region, without centralising control.

Brand Guidelines

At ISF Cambodia, there were no brand or communication standards in place, and donor-facing communication lacked coherence. I developed brand guidelines and basic communication standards to clarify messaging, visual identity, and impact framing. These structures improved the clarity and credibility of external communication and provided a shared foundation for consistent decision-making.
