Communication Strategy
Project Type
Strategy
This theme brings together work focused on how communication functions at organisational level — the policies, standards, and shared practices that shape what can be said, by whom, and with what responsibility.
Across different contexts, I’ve worked on communication governance where inconsistency, ethical risk, or structural gaps had real consequences. The emphasis here is on building communication systems that people can actually use.
Example: VVOB - education for development
As Global Director of Engagement & Communication for VVOB, I work across a multi-country organisation operating in diverse political, linguistic, and cultural contexts. Communication practices varied widely between teams and countries, with decisions about language, imagery, and storytelling often made without shared standards. This led to inconsistency and placed responsibility for ethical judgement on individuals rather than on the organisation. I led the development of a communication governance framework, including global communication policies, writing guidelines, and ethical storytelling standards, designed to be embedded within an internal communication system. This work brought greater clarity and coherence to communication practices, supported more consistent decision-making and created greater brand coherence.
